High school sports in Tacoma and the current challenges

Willie Stewart is a Native Texan who was an educator for the  Tacoma School District from 1960-1990.  Willie is the retired Assistant Superintendent of the Tacoma School District and also retired from the Army reserves in 1990. He is a long time community volunteer serving on the Tacoma Athletic Comminssion since 1971 the Boys & Girls Club since 1970.  Willie received his education at Texas Southern University, Pacific Lutheran University and University of Washington

He will present information on the challenges to high school sports including

  • Eligibility
  • Open enrollment
  • Scheduling – non conference
  • Cost of officials and operations
  • Lack of volunteers
  • Lack of school based coaches
  • Titlte 9 implementation
