![]() spuyaləpabš: Welcome to the Puyallup Tribe
Sep 05, 2019
spuyaləpabš, the Puyallup people, were known as the “generous and welcoming people to all who enter our lands.” Today as in the past, the Puyallup people measure wealth not by what they have but by what they share. Tribal Council Chairman David Z. Bean will talk about the Tribe’s impact in our region today as not only a sovereign nation but one of the largest employers in Pierce County, a generous donor to charitable causes and a defender of natural resources and prosperity for future generations. David Z. Bean graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 1992 with a degree in business and public administration and after college worked for the Puyallup Tribe’s economic development arm and as a small-business owner. In 2006, he won election to the Puyallup Tribal Council, the Tribe’s seven-member governing body, and in June 2019 accepted the chairmanship. David also serves as vice chairman of the National Indian Gaming Association and is active with other Indian associations. He participates regularly in cultural activities such as drumming, singing, dancing and language classes, and he continues the fishing tradition he learned as a child by participating in Tribal fisheries as a diver harvesting geoducks. |

The Ghosts of Tacoma - Pretty Gritty Tours
Oct 31, 2019
You will learn today about the haunted history of Tacoma. Chris and Tawny Staudinger have traveled around the globe together as award-winning travel writers and videographers since they met on Mount Kilimanjaro 10 years ago. After experiencing more than 50 countries, they decided on Tacoma as a place to call home in 2014. “When we chose a home base, we knew we wanted to continue sharing travel experiences with people, but this time as tour guides,” said Chris Staudinger. Their idea came to fruition in August 2016, when they paired with their longtime friends and board-game partners, Jackie and Paul Richter, to create Pretty Gritty Tours. Today, the team leads tours to everything from spooky haunts to historical neighborhoods.

The award-winning team at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center invites Rotarians to join us in celebrating 15 years in downtown Tacoma! We won’t make you sing happy birthday (or will we?). The Greater Tacoma Convention Center hosts an average of 220 events annually with more than 125,000 attendees. More than 32,000 room nights are confirmed through 2024, for an estimated $20 million in economic impact over the next five years. The construction of the four-star, 304-room Marriott Tacoma Downtown hotel is changing the downtown landscape right before our eyes. We have plenty to celebrate! The venue was just recognized by Northwest Meetings & Events magazine as one of the top convention centers in Washington state and also by industry publication Exhibitor magazine as one of the top 20 convention centers in North America. Please join us in the first floor lobby at 1500 Commerce St. If you don't want to worry about downtown parking take the Link Light Rail and be dropped at the front door! Please RSVP by Friday, November 8 at 3 pm. |
