2021-09-30 00:00:00Z	Sep 29, 2021	Allan Belton - PLU	Co-Creating Healthy, Vibrant Communities	Sep 30, 2021		Allan Belton has served as PLU's 14th president since 2019, helping the 132-year-old university renew its commitments to community investment and social innovation. In particular, Belton will highlight recent partnerships that have strengthened community health resources, as well as preview plans for future investment and program expansion. During his years at PLU, Allan has developed a strong vision for PLU’s future. He is deeply committed to the mission to educate students for lives of thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership and care—for other people, for their communities and for the Earth. He is focused on the success of PLU students and providing them with the academic programs and support services they need to pursue their education and meet the needs of a dynamic world. Allan is committed to the belief that PLU will be defined by its uniqueness as a university guided by the values of Lutheran education and will be transformed into a model for other universities, rooted in its calling and highly-engaged in the community. Prior to joining PLU, Allan enjoyed a 25-year career with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he served most recently as Managing Director in global treasury management for higher education, government and non-profit organizations. Allan grew up as the youngest of eight kids in Zillah, Washington, and was the first in his family to graduate from college. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an M.B.A. from Washington State University. Allan is married to Melinda Krotz Belton, PLU Class of 1991; they live in Gig Harbor with their three children.	View

2021-12-02 00:00:00Z	Dec 01, 2021	Ken Maaz	Everyone Deserves Their Best Life	Dec 02, 2021		Be inspired by the miracles that are created every day for the most vulnerable children in our community and the stories of the people who make them possible at Ashley House Northwest. Ken Maaz is in the 47^th year of a career that has included work for county and state juvenile services agencies in Texas and for the last 35 years as the chief executive of several northwest non-profits. He has been with Ashley House for nine years and plans to make this his last agency home. He loves his work, the mission of Ashley House, its wonderful kids, and his exceptional Ashley House family. A graduate of Baylor University where he majored in Social Work, he also possesses a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Washington, and he recently completed his doctoral studies in leadership and learning in organizations at Vanderbilt University. When not working Ken stays busy with his four year old, Mikey, his husband, Miguel, their five dogs, and their soon to completed school bus conversion into a camper.	View

2022-02-03 00:00:00Z	Feb 02, 2022	Robb Krehbiel	How You Can Help Orcas	Feb 03, 2022		One of the biggest threats to orcas and Puget Sound is polluted stormwater runoff, but fortunately, there are ways that everyone living in western Washington can take action and keep this pollution out of the Sound and away from endangered orcas. Robb Krehbiel is the Green Stormwater Program Manager for the Pierce Conservation District where he helps homeowners, community groups, and businesses in Pierce County build pollinator and rain gardens, remove lawns and concrete, and harvest rain water. These projects not only help beautify neighborhoods; they also reduce polluted stormwater runoff from reaching Puget Sound. Robb lives in Tacoma’s South End (Blueberry Park Neighborhood).	View
